To delve into the beverage world a bit, along with a little tribute to Michala Monroe (the creator of this all), I bring you “The Golden Monroe” cocktail.
Beverages are a very important component to any night in or out. Even non-alcoholic beverages play a role in making a romantic evening a success.
Before you go and start spouting off “oh, I know booze I drink all the time” this is about understanding it, being able to pair it with the meal, and experiencing the alcohols. Lets start on cocktails:
Toss the shot glasses to the side, grab a good shaker, nice glassware , and a trusty jiger. Make sure you have lots of ice on hand and fresh ingredients. Go with the classics they are time tested and fool proof (mostly). I recommend having a trusted source of drink recipes, the industry standard and my personal favorite is “Mr. Boston: official bartending & party guide“. Making something too complicated can take too long, or make it look like you’re trying to hard. Impress her with your ability to ‘throw together’ something delicious in minutes.
“The Golden Monroe”
1/2 oz. Goldschlager
1 1/2oz. Black cherry vodka
1/2 oz. Simple syrup
1/2 oz. Cherry juice
Squeeze of a fresh orange wedge
Pour Goldschlager into the bottom of a chilled martini glass, place the rest of the ingredients into a shaker filled with ice along with the squeezed orange wedge, shake vigorously for a good 10-15 seconds. Place strainer lid onto the shaker and pour the mixture down the side of the glass causing the gold flakes to swirl into the drink. Garnish with a twist of orange and enjoy! (On a side note: Most martini glasses have 3 ounce capacity, something to keep in mind when experimenting/ measuring/ mixing).
Things to consider when pairing cocktails, your dates preference in alcohol (of course), the foods’ roots (Cuban food deserves nice mojitos), and your liquor cabinet contents. I want to bring up quality also, you don’t need to go top shelf expensive alcohols. There are plenty of cheaper very high quality brands out there you just need to find your personal preferences. (Soon to come will be a list of brands and recommendations I have for you all to try out).
Always Enjoy Food, Drinks, And Fornication. Cheers!
